Instructions for completing the scholarship application:

1. Determine the Scholarship Category. Choose Academic Merit or Community Service.

  • Academic Merit Scholarships: require a GPA of 3.0 or better, and full time enrollment in College or High School (City Employee Working Students can be part time).
  • Community Service Scholarship: requires proof of active involvement in events and activities benefiting the community.

2. LAFACE membership requirement (paid member since March 1, 2020 or earlier): Applicants must either be: a current, paid member of LAFACE for at least one (1) year, or a child of a current, paid LAFACE member for at least one (1) year. Applicants must include the employment information of the LAFACE members.

3. Submit Official Transcripts (Academic Merit Scholarships only) for term ending Fall 2020, showing a GPA of 3.0 or better. Winter 2021 transcript is also acceptable.

4. Submit a 2-page Essay (Arial, 12 font, double spaced).

  • Academic Merit Applicant (City Employee Working Student): Define what is racial equity. How would you cultivate racial equity in school or workplace?
  • Academic Merit Applicant (College/High School Student): Define what is racial equity. How would you cultivate racial equity in school or workplace?
  • Community Service Applicant: Describe how you would have demonstrated leadership ability both in and out of school. What impact has your work or leadership role had in improving or serving the community?

5. Submit Two (2) Letters of Recommendation. Bonus point for additional Letter of Recommendation:

  • Academic Merit: Two letters from teachers and/or school counselors. City Employee Students may substitute one letter from a current/former supervisor. Letters must mention leadership skills and qualities of the scholarship applicant.
  • Community Service: At least (1) one letter must be from the director/organizer of the community project/activity involved in. Other letters may be from teachers and/or school counselors. Letters must mention leadership skills & qualities and explain the extent of active involvement of the scholarship applicant in events/activities that benefit the community.
